The establishment of the Department of New Media and Communication within the Faculty of Communication at Ege University was approved by the YÖK (Council of Higher Education) Executive Board on December 21, 2023, as a result of the efforts and application led by our Dean, Prof. Dr. Bilgehan Gültekin. Our department initially began admitting students to the Thesis-based Master's Program in New Media and Communication within the Social Sciences Institute in the Spring Semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. It is planned that student admissions to the Bachelor's Program will begin in the 2026-2027 academic year.

 

Our mission as the Department of New Media and Communication is to meet the needs of society by educating individuals who keep pace with the development of 21st-century technologies, possess the knowledge of the correct use of digital technologies -a vital part of social change- embrace universal ethical standards and innovation as a life principle, view continuous change and development as a part of their daily lives, can think critically, possess the knowledge to blend information from real and digital life, are proficient in digital environment research methods, have developed observation skills in virtual environments, and have gained analytical abilities.

 

In this regard, the Department of New Media and Communication aims to cultivate individuals who can think strategically, use traditional media and new communication technologies together, and especially address the needs of various sectors of society in the field of digital technologies, by bringing together traditional media and social sciences on a digital platform with a multidisciplinary scope.
